Coined in 1981 by leading financier Antoine van Agtmael, the term emerging markets was a positive and dynamic substitution of the then categorization Third World . Commonly used today by financial indices such as FTSE, Dow Jones, and S&P, the term refers to as many as 35 countries6. While this term is perhaps already in some ways outdated, it is used here simply as a reference to a group of countries that does not enjoy the benefits (and afflictions) of a G7 type economy. By such a classification we hope to evaluate the practice of adaptive reuse within confines common particularly to this group. What does sustainability mean in a country with a developing economy?
